“Maison de Van Gogh” (2004-2006)
This is a drawing that I worked at on and off for nearly two years. What if all the artworks that an artist makes are coexisting inside of him/her? Wouldn’t it be neat if they were just wandering around and socializing with one another and just going about their lives inside the person? And so, because that idea was interesting to me, I started out on this mission to test out what it would look like. I chose Van Gogh because his work is so easily recognizable. The other reason I chose him is because he has painted so many self-portraits that I thought it might be amusing to see the various mini-Van-Goghs together inside the large Van Gogh (almost like Being John Malkovich). I printed out his paintings at a small size and took a long time figuring out which images I would be able to feasibly tie together, basing most of my decisions on colors. I then did my best to imagine the space around those images. The printed out pictures are stuck on with double-sided tape. Everything else is prismacolor.
